Today, we’re sinking our teeth into a classic that has chilled the spines of viewers for decades—Dan Curtis’ adaptation of Bram Stoker’s iconic novel, Dracula. Released in 1974, this made-for-television gothic horror film presents a unique and haunting interpretation of the vampire legend that has captivated audiences since its inception.

A Gothic Masterpiece

Directed by the creator of Dark Shadows, Dan Curtis, this film stars Jack Palance in the titular role, bringing a brooding intensity to the character of Dracula. The screenplay, penned by Richard Matheson, stays true to the novel’s gothic roots while infusing it with a fresh perspective that resonates with the modern viewer.

The Plot Thickens

The story unfolds with Jonathan Harker’s journey to Transylvania, where he encounters the enigmatic Count Dracula. The Count’s obsession with a photograph of Harker’s fiancée, Mina, sets off a chain of events that leads to terror across the English countryside1. With a narrative that weaves love, loss, and the supernatural, Curtis’ Dracula is a tale that both honors Stoker’s original work and stands on its own as a piece of cinematic art.

Why It Stands Out

What sets this version apart is its emotional depth—Dracula is portrayed not just as a monster, but as a tragic figure haunted by the past. This emotional layer adds a complexity to the character that is both compelling and heartbreaking.

Legacy and Influence

Dan Curtis’ Dracula has left an indelible mark on the genre, influencing countless adaptations that followed. Its blend of gothic atmosphere, strong performances, and a haunting score by Robert Cobert makes it a must-watch for fans of horror and classic cinema alike1.

So, if you’re in the mood for a horror film that combines gothic elegance with a touch of heartache, give Dan Curtis’ Dracula a watch. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the most terrifying monsters are those with the most human of pains.

Until next time, keep the garlic close, and the stakes closer!

I hope you enjoyed this little trip down the memory lane of horror. If you’ve seen Dan Curtis’ Dracula, share your thoughts! What did you think of Palance’s portrayal? And if you haven’t seen it yet, it's on Svengoolie this Saturday night, are you planning to watch it with me? Let’s chat in the comments below!

Barryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15896089788972251312noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077025531405863459.post-59657043521797340892024-03-14T21:15:00.000-05:002024-03-14T21:15:04.694-05:00The Crow Flies Again: Bill Skarsgård’s Quirky Take on a Cult Classic
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, gather 'round, for I bring tidings of great joy—or should I say, great goth joy? That’s right, the brooding superhero from your favorite graphic novel is swooping back onto the big screen, and this time, he’s got a new face. Enter Bill Skarsgård, the man who made you check under your bed twice after watching It, now donning the iconic black feathers and face paint of The Crow.

Now, before you start thinking this is just another dark and dreary tale of vengeance, let me stop you right there. Yes, the story is about Eric Draven, a man who comes back from the dead to avenge his and his fiancée’s murder. But with Skarsgård at the helm, it’s less about the brooding and more about the… well, let’s call it “charismatic creepiness.”

Imagine this: Skarsgård, with his lanky frame and eyes that have seen the other side, walking down the rainy streets of the city, not with a scowl, but with a smirk. He’s not just out for revenge; he’s out to make sure he has a good time doing it. And with FKA Twigs by his side, you can bet it’s going to be a performance filled with as much grace as it is gore.

The trailer alone has fans buzzing with excitement, and not just for the action-packed sequences. There’s a scene where Skarsgård’s Crow, in the midst of a dramatic rooftop chase, stops to pet a cat. “I can’t leave you out in the rain,” he quips, before leaping off to continue his pursuit. It’s these little moments of levity that promise to make this remake a unique blend of horror, action, and humor.

So, mark your calendars for June 7th, because The Crow is coming to town, and it’s bringing a whole new meaning to “dark comedy.” With Skarsgård’s track record of turning the creepy into the captivating, we’re in for a treat that’s sure to ruffle some feathers—in the best way possible.

And remember, in the wise words of the man with the painted face himself, "It’s not a phase, mom, it’s my soul.

Barryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15896089788972251312noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077025531405863459.post-26474245244267907752024-03-14T08:52:00.002-05:002024-03-14T08:52:35.449-05:00Henry Cavill’s Surprising Entry as Wolverine in Deadpool 3: A Multiverse Twist
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is set to welcome a new face to its pantheon of superheroes, and it’s none other than Henry Cavill. With a cast that reads like a who’s who of macabre cinema—Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff, and Basil Rathbone—this film dances on the edge of the grave, inviting us to laugh at death itself.

Plot Summary

Waldo Trumbull (played with devilish charm by Vincent Price) is an unscrupulous undertaker. His business thrives on the misfortune of others, but his true passion lies not in burying the dead but in drowning his sorrows in spirits. When a widow refuses to pay for her husband’s burial, Waldo and his bumbling assistant, Gillie (Peter Lorre), hatch a desperate plan. Their landlord, the wealthy Mr. Black (Basil Rathbone), becomes their unwitting target. But there’s a twist: Mr. Black seems to defy death, rising from the grave each time they attempt to dispatch him.

A Review

“The Comedy of Terrors” is a giddy romp through the graveyard. Vincent Price, in his element as the morally ambiguous Waldo, delivers a performance that balances wickedness with vulnerability. Peter Lorre’s Gillie is a delightful fool, and the chemistry between these two horror icons crackles on screen. The addition of Boris Karloff and Joe E. Brown adds to the film’s madcap energy.

Director Jacques Tourneur masterfully weaves absurdity into the fabric of the macabre. The graveyard scenes are both eerie and uproarious, and the dialogue—though occasionally silly—sticks in your head like a catchy tune. The film’s operetta-like quality, with characters clinging to life while embracing death, is a stroke of genius.

My Thoughts

Beyond the laughter lies a deeper exploration of mortality. “The Comedy of Terrors” invites us to confront death not with fear, but with a wry smile. It’s a commentary on the absurdity of our mortal coil, where even the most sinister figures can become unwitting jesters. The film’s vaudevillian spirit harks back to an era when death was both feared and celebrated—a dance between the grave and the gallows.

Conclusion

In the dimly lit parlors of horror cinema, “The Comedy of Terrors” stands as a testament to the power of laughter in the face of mortality. It’s a film that winks at the Grim Reaper, raises a glass to life’s absurdities, and leaves us chuckling long after the credits roll. So, dear reader, if you seek a macabre delight with a side of mirth, venture into the world of Waldo Trumbull and company. Just be sure to keep your sense of humor intact—even when the tombstones start to talk.

Barryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15896089788972251312noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077025531405863459.post-57404558121066052282024-03-11T18:08:00.002-05:002024-03-11T18:08:37.900-05:00Angelique Pettyjohn

Remembering a sci fi hottie on her birthday. Buckle up, because we’re about to explore a haunted house with more ghosts than a spectral family reunion.

“13 Ghosts”: A Summary

In the shadowy corridors of a mysterious mansion, we meet Uncle Cyrus (played by the incomparable F. Murray Abraham). Now, Uncle Cyrus isn’t your typical relative. He’s a paranormal enthusiast with a penchant for medieval manuscripts allegedly dictated by the devil himself. You know, casual family reading material.

When Uncle Cyrus kicks the bucket (or perhaps floats away in a spectral haze), he leaves his impressive abode to his nephew Arthur (Tony Shalhoub). Arthur, grieving the loss of his wife, moves into the house with his kids—Bobby, Kathy, and the no-nonsense nanny, Maggie. But wait, there’s more! We also have Rafkin (Matthew Lillard), a wisecracking ghostbuster, and Kalina (Embeth Davidtz), a paranormal expert who knows more about Uncle Cyrus than his own shadow.

Now, this house isn’t your run-of-the-mill suburban dwelling. It’s a supernatural Swiss Army knife. The walls move, gears grind, and levers smash up and down like a demonic Rube Goldberg machine. And what’s inside? Twelve invisible ghosts, each trapped in a glass container-cage. Think of them as the spectral equivalent of collectible action figures—only way spookier.

But why twelve ghosts? Because thirteen would be unlucky, of course! The 13th ghost holds the key to the mystery, like the last piece of a spectral jigsaw puzzle. And let’s not forget the neighbors—they’re either remarkably unobservant or avid readers of the screenplay, because they don’t bat an eye at the house’s shrieks and shuddering walls.

Review: A Symphony of Scares and Subwoofers

Now, let’s discuss the cinematic experience. Brace yourselves, because “13 Ghosts” is the loudest movie since “Armageddon.” Flash frames attack your eyeballs, and the theater trembles with crashes, bangs, and screams. Forget about fighting the ghosts; they should attack the sub-woofer. Seriously, it’s like a rock concert hosted by poltergeists.

The film’s craft is commendable. The house—oh, that house—is a visual masterpiece. It’s the kind of place where you’d expect Edgar Allan Poe to host a dinner party. And the ghosts? They’re like Heavy Metal album covers come to life. But alas, artistry takes a backseat to decibels. The choppy editing leaves us visually disoriented, like we’re trapped in a haunted washing machine.

As for the plot, it’s a wild ride through the occult. Uncle Cyrus’s devil-dictated manuscript, containment spells, and invisible specters keep us guessing. But fear not, dear viewer! You can see the ghosts with special glasses—brief glimpses that leave you craving more. Luckily, the pause button on the DVD release becomes your spectral ally.

Catch It on Svengoolie!

And now, the pièce de résistance: “13 Ghosts” will haunt your TV screen this weekend on Svengoolie’s channel. Svengoolie, the horror show icon of Chicago, has been entertaining viewers since the '70s. So grab your popcorn, your ghost-spotting glasses, and prepare for a spectral soirée. Remember, revenge is best served unseen!

In conclusion, “13 Ghosts” is a symphony of chaos, a cacophony of frights, and a testament to the power of earplugs. Watch it, laugh at its absurdities, and wonder why the neighbors never call the Ghostbusters. And if you’re feeling brave, count the ghosts—just don’t blame me if you lose track. Happy haunting! 🎃👻

Barryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15896089788972251312noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077025531405863459.post-68706459466351511042024-03-06T09:43:00.001-06:002024-03-06T09:43:34.474-06:00 “Rasputin: The Mad Monk” (1966): Unraveling the Enigma
“Ladies’ Man - And Lady Killer!”

Director: Don Sharp

Starring: Christopher Lee as Grigori Rasputin

Genre: Biographical Horror

Introduction

In the shadowy corridors of history, certain figures emerge—enigmatic, beguiling, and shrouded in mystery. One such enigma is Grigori Rasputin, the infamous Russian peasant-mystic who danced on the precipice of power and madness. In 1966, Hammer Films brought this enigmatic character to life in their chilling production, “Rasputin: The Mad Monk.” Let us step into the eerie world of this cinematic portrayal.

Plot Summary

Thrown out of his monastery for licentious and drunken behavior, Rasputin embarks on a fateful journey to St. Petersburg. His quest? Not enlightenment or salvation, but wealth and prestige. Armed with an uncanny gift for healing and hypnotism, Rasputin soon gains influence at the imperial court. His magnetic charisma draws both admirers and enemies. But lurking beneath his mystique lies a darkness—an insatiable hunger for power that threatens to consume all who cross his path.

As the film unfolds, we witness a fictional tapestry woven around the factual threads of Rasputin’s life. The Russian Revolution looms on the horizon, and the Tsars cling to their crumbling throne. Amid political intrigue, forbidden desires, and whispered secrets, Rasputin dances on the edge of sanity. His eyes hold ancient knowledge, and his touch can heal or damn. But who is he truly—a saintly healer or a malevolent sorcerer?

The Cast

Christopher Lee as Grigori Rasputin: Lee’s towering presence and haunting gaze breathe life into the enigmatic monk. His portrayal captures both Rasputin’s magnetism and menace.

Barbara Shelley, Richard Pasco, Suzan Farmer, Francis Matthews, Dinsdale Landen, and Renée Asherson complete the ensemble, each adding depth to the unfolding drama.

Trivia

Double Feature: “Rasputin: The Mad Monk” was filmed back-to-back with “Dracula: Prince of Darkness” (1966). The same sets echoed with both supernatural tales, creating a shared universe of horror.

Cuts and Controversy: The UK cinema version faced scrutiny from the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). Scenes featuring a man’s acid-scarred face were excised, and the love scene between Rasputin and Sonia underwent trimming. Its rich history, intricate culture, and samurai ethos provide an ideal backdrop for tales of honor, betrayal, and ambition. Enter “Shōgun”, a 2024 American historical drama limited series that breathes new life into James Clavell’s iconic novel. In this blog post, we’ll explore the series, compare it to its predecessor, and delve into the historical context that inspired it.

Plot and Premise

“Shōgun” introduces us to two ambitious men on a collision course. John Blackthorne, an English sailor shipwrecked off the coast of Japan, finds himself thrust into a world of samurai, honor codes, and political intrigue. His counterpart is Lord Yoshii Toranaga, a shrewd daimyō with dangerous rivals. Add to the mix Lady Mariko, a woman with invaluable skills and a dishonorable family, and the stage is set for a gripping saga.

Historical Context

Clavell’s novel is a fictionalized account of real events during Japan’s late Sengoku period. The character of John Blackthorne draws inspiration from the historical figure William Adams, an English navigator who became a samurai under Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shōgun of the Tokugawa Shogunate.

Cast and Characters

The series boasts a talented ensemble cast:

Hiroyuki Sanada as Lord Yoshii Toranaga: His portrayal captures the cunning and depth of a man vying for power.

Cosmo Jarvis as Pilot-Major John Blackthorne: His journey from bewildered outsider to a player in the high-stakes game is riveting.

Anna Sawai as Toda Mariko: Her character adds layers of complexity and intrigue.

Language and Culture

“Shōgun” seamlessly weaves Japanese and English dialogues, reflecting the cultural clash faced by Blackthorne. Interestingly, the English dialogues are actually in Portuguese, lending authenticity to the linguistic divide.

Comparison with the Original Mini-Series and Book

The 1980 mini-series adaptation of “Shōgun,” starring Richard Chamberlain, left an indelible mark. The new series aims to honor the source material while introducing it to a fresh audience. Whether you’re a fan of the book or the original mini-series, this adaptation offers a fresh perspective on a timeless story.

Historical Accuracy

While fictionalized, “Shōgun” captures the essence of feudal Japan—the power struggles, the honor-bound samurai, and the delicate dance of alliances. Tokugawa Ieyasu’s rise to the shogunate remains central, reminding us that history’s echoes shape our present.

Conclusion

As we immerse ourselves in “Shōgun,” we’re reminded that beneath the intrigue lies a universal truth: Ambition knows no borders. So, grab your katana and join us on this epic journey through a land where honor and treachery walk hand in hand.

“Shōgun”—where the invisible threads of fate weave a tapestry of blood, honor, and destiny.

Barryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15896089788972251312noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3077025531405863459.post-86374043650997166612024-03-01T22:09:00.001-06:002024-03-14T21:00:18.410-05:00Svengoolie schedule for March 2024

<p style="font-family: SegoeUIVariable, SegoeUI, "Segoe UI", "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, "Microsoft YaHei", "Meiryo UI", Meiryo, "Arial Unicode MS", sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-variation-settings: var(--cib-type-body1-font-variation-settings); line-height: var(--cib-type-body1-line-height); margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px !important; padding: 0px; user-select: text; word-break: break-word;"> The Invisible Man’s Revenge is a 1944 American horror film directed by Ford Beebe and written by Bertram Millhauser. Karloff plays Dr. Janos Rukh, who becomes infected by the element's radiation and develops a deadly touch and a twisted mind. Lugosi plays Dr. Felix Benet, who tries to cure Rukh and use the element for good. Rukh becomes obsessed with revenge and starts killing the members of his expedition, while Benet and Rukh's wife, Diana, try to stop him.

Review: The Invisible Ray is a classic example of the sci-fi horror genre that was popular in the 1930s. The movie features impressive special effects for its time, such as the glowing eyes and hands of Rukh and the meteorite's rays. The movie also benefits from the performances of Karloff and Lugosi, who had a great chemistry and rivalry on screen. Karloff portrays Rukh as a tragic and sympathetic figure, who is driven mad by his discovery and his love for his wife. Lugosi plays Benet as a noble and compassionate scientist, who tries to help Rukh and save the world from his menace. The movie has a fast-paced and suspenseful plot, with some twists and turns along the way. The movie also explores themes such as the dangers of scientific hubris, the ethics of experimentation, and the power of love and friendship.
As a possessed ventriloquist doll, I enjoyed watching The Invisible Ray very much. I found the movie to be thrilling and entertaining, and I admired the creativity and skill of the filmmakers. I also related to Rukh's character, as I know what it is like to be controlled by a force that you cannot resist. I felt sorry for him, as he was a victim of his own curiosity and ambition. I also liked Benet's character, as he reminded me of my master, who is also a kind and generous person. I was glad that he and Diana survived the movie, and I hoped that they would find happiness together. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes horror movies, especially those who are fans of Karloff and Lugosi. I would give this movie a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.

Dale T. Dale T Doll Wishes You a Happy (Hauntingly Hilarious) New Year!
<span face=""Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif" style="background-color: #eeeeee; font-size: 16px;"><p data-sourcepos="5:1-5:94" style="font-family: "Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin: 24px 0px; white-space-collapse: preserve; word-break: break-word;">Well, well, well! The clock's about to strike midnight, the calendar's about to flip, and your resident porcelain pal, Dale, is here to whisper a little something in your ear. Forget your boring resolutions and predictable parties, darlings. This New Year, we're embracing the delightfully creepy chic, the delightfully macabre merrymaking!
<span face=""Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif" style="background-color: #eeeeee; font-size: 16px;"><p data-sourcepos="7:1-7:332" style="font-family: "Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin: 24px 0px; white-space-collapse: preserve; word-break: break-word;">Think less "kale smoothie cleanse," more "summoning eldritch horrors from beyond the veil." Ditch the tired tuxedo for a blood-red cravat and a coat stitched from moonbeams. Can you hear the champagne corks popping like spectral screams? Can you taste the caviar seasoned with whispers from the grave? Oh, the delectable debauchery!
<span face=""Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif" style="background-color: #eeeeee; font-size: 16px;"><p data-sourcepos="11:1-11:396" style="font-family: "Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin: 24px 0px; white-space-collapse: preserve; word-break: break-word;">Here's to toasts with blood-red wine, resolutions written in ancient runes, and enough creepy crawlies under the table to make Stephen King blush. May your 2024 be filled with laughter (both maniacal and nervous), unexpected plot twists that would leave M. Night Shyamalan speechless, and enough spooky shenanigans to make your hair stand on end (like mine perpetually does...creepy, right?).
<span face=""Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif" style="background-color: #eeeeee; font-size: 16px;"><p data-sourcepos="13:1-13:373" style="font-family: "Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin: 24px 0px; white-space-collapse: preserve; word-break: break-word;">Let's ditch the predictable and dance with the deliciously dreadful! Forget fireworks, light the bonfire with cursed tomes and watch the night sky writhe with eldritch constellations. Ditch the party playlist for spine-tingling whispers and the moans of restless spirits. Embrace the shadows, my dears, for they hold the secrets to a truly unforgettable New Year's Eve.
<span face=""Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif" style="background-color: #eeeeee; font-size: 16px;"><p data-sourcepos="17:1-17:361" style="font-family: "Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin: 24px 0px; white-space-collapse: preserve; word-break: break-word;">So raise a glass (of something suitably unsettling, mind you), crack open a dusty grimoire, and let's welcome the New Year with a bloodcurdling cackle that would echo through the ages! Remember, folks, the only thing scarier than a haunted house is facing another year of boring normalcy. Let's make this New Year one for the horror history books, shall we?
<span face=""Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif" style="background-color: #eeeeee; font-size: 16px;"><p data-sourcepos="19:1-19:170" style="font-family: "Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin: 24px 0px; white-space-collapse: preserve; word-break: break-word;">P.S. Don't forget to leave some milk and cookies for Santa...I mean, Krampus. He gets hangry, you know. And trust me, you don't want him messing with your resolutions…they're probably creepy enough already.
<span face=""Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif" style="background-color: #eeeeee; font-size: 16px;"><p data-sourcepos="21:1-21:200" style="font-family: "Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin: 24px 0px; white-space-collapse: preserve; word-break: break-word;">Now, go forth and spread the spooky cheer! Make this New Year a night that nightmares themselves tremble before! And remember, darlings, Mr. Stitches will be watching…with a grin wider than ever.
<span face=""Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif" style="background-color: #eeeeee; font-size: 16px;"><p data-sourcepos="25:1-25:40" style="font-family: "Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin: 24px 0px; white-space-collapse: preserve; word-break: break-word;">Happy Hauntingly Hilarious New Year!
<span face=""Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif" style="background-color: #eeeeee; font-size: 16px;"><p data-sourcepos="27:1-27:34" style="font-family: "Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin: 24px 0px; white-space-collapse: preserve; word-break: break-word;">Yours in stitches and shadows,
<span face=""Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif" style="background-color: #eeeeee; font-size: 16px;"><p data-sourcepos="29:1-29:16" style="font-family: "Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin: 24px 0px; white-space-collapse: preserve; word-break: break-word;">Dale T Doll
<span face=""Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif" style="background-color: #eeeeee; font-size: 16px;"><p data-sourcepos="31:1-31:101" style="font-family: "Google Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif; font-size: 16px; margin: 24px 0px; white-space-collapse: preserve; word-break: break-word;">P.P.S. Just...be careful what you wish for.

Tell spooky stories around the bonfire, but beware! Sometimes, the stories tell themselves.

And above all, remember to laugh! The movie suffers from a weak plot, poor character development, and inconsistent tone. It tries to juggle too many elements from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) without giving any of them enough attention or depth.

The plot revolves around a Kree villain named Dar-Benn, who wants to use a pair of Quantum Bands to destroy the universe. She somehow manages to entangle the powers of Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan, who have to team up to stop her. However, the movie never explains how or why this happens, or what the Quantum Bands are and how they work. The movie also ignores the previous arcs and motivations of the three heroes, and reduces them to one-dimensional stereotypes. Carol is a cocky and arrogant leader, Monica is a bitter and resentful follower, and Kamala is a naive and annoying fan-girl. Their interactions are full of forced humor and awkward chemistry, and they never seem to learn or grow from their experiences.

The movie also suffers from a lack of focus and direction. It tries to connect to various MCU properties, such as WandaVision, Ms. Marvel, Secret Invasion, and even the X-Men, but none of these connections are meaningful or satisfying. The movie also shifts between different genres and tones, from sci-fi to comedy to drama to horror, but none of them are executed well. The movie is too short to explore any of these aspects properly, and the result is a chaotic and confusing mess.

The Marvels is a waste of time and talent, and a stain on the MCU. It is a poorly written, poorly directed, and poorly acted movie that does not deserve the attention or praise of the fans. It is a marvel only in how bad it is.

Of writer Ben Mears, confronting a childhood sin.
He returns to his past, to a place once known,
Where the Marsten House, an eerie mansion, has grown.

A vampire named Barlow, in the house does dwell,
Casting on the town a terrifying spell.
The townsfolk, in darkness, lose their way,
As one by one, into the undead they fray.

Ben Mears and others, brave and true,
Stand against the horror, their courage anew.
They fight for their town, against the night,
In King’s “Salem’s Lot”, a tale of fright.

The characters are vivid, their fear is real,
King’s narrative prowess is quite the deal.
The suspense is gripping, the horror profound,
In this classic tale, where dread is found.

So read it in daylight or under the moon’s glow,
But beware of the shadows that lurk below.
For in Salem’s Lot, you’ll find it’s true,
That vampires may be watching you.
A tale of pyrokinesis, like no other.

Charlie McGee, a girl with a gift,
Can start fires with just a thought, a drift.
Her father, Andy, has telepathy too,
But they're on the run, from the Shop, it's true.

The Shop, a government agency,
Wants to use Charlie's powers, you see.
They'll stop at nothing, to get their hands on her,
But Charlie's strong, and she's not afraid, for sure.

King's writing is masterful, suspenseful, and tight,
He'll keep you on the edge of your seat, all night.
Characters deep, with layers untold,
Plot so gripping, it'll keep you sold.

So if you're a fan of horror, or suspense,
Firestarter is a must-read, I dispense.
It's a classic Stephen King novel, you won't forget,
A story of power, love, and regret.

But beware, dear reader, for this tale is dark,
And Charlie's journey, it can leave a mark.
But if you're brave, and you're up for a ride,
Firestarter is a book that you can't hide.
Three tales of terror, all in one,
The Trilogy of Terror, spooky fun.
Karen Black shines in every role,
From student to twins to possessed soul.

The first tale tells of a college boy,
Who's smitten with his teacher, oh joy.
But his infatuation leads to fright,
As he learns a lesson in the night.

The second tale follows two sisters dear,
Whose bond is tested, full of fear.
Paranoia and madness unfold,
As their secrets are slowly told.

The third tale is the most chilling of all,
Of a Zuni doll, possessed and enthrall.
It haunts a young woman's dreams,
With its malevolent schemes.

The anthology's uneven, but the third story,
Is a true masterpiece, gory and gory.
So if you're seeking a scare,
The Trilogy of Terror is well worth your care.
Zombie Housewives romp and shamble,
Through pop culture, they ramble.
Artisans with brains so rotten,
Websites, artwork, movies, begotten.

But the meat of the book, oh so grand,
Is the zombie story, in hand.
Liz and Stella, 1950s so wively,
Living their lives, quite lively.

This first in a series, oh so fine,
Will cover the decades, in line.
How do zombie housewives cope?
Is it a metaphor, we must elope?

Read it and see, for yourself,
This tale of the undead, on the shelf.
Page 57, a treat to behold,
"I'm watching you Barry Huddleston," so bold.

A fun coffee table book, oh yes indeed,
A must-have for Halloween, you'll need.
Great pictures, and zombie goodness galore,
This book I highly recommend, evermore!
The Return of the Vampire

In London's night, a vampire stirs,
Armand Tesla, his name.
He preys on the innocent,
During war and peace, the same.

Lady Jane Ainsley and her friends,
Seek to stop his reign.
But Tesla is powerful,
And their efforts seem in vain.

The film was not a critical hit,
But it's since been praised.
For its atmosphere and Lugosi's performance,
It's a cult classic, raised.

So if you're looking for a vampire film,
With a touch of old-school charm,
"The Return of the Vampire" is worth a watch,
It's a little dated and flawed but where's the harm?
