MY THOUGHTS OF THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES
At Christmas, or thereabout, my nephew and I catch a movie at one of the local theaters. I wouldn’t call it a family tradition, but it resembles a family tradition. Let’s just call it an odd seasonal coincidence. At any rate, my sister joined us to watch The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
We arrived some 40 minutes early to the Regal Cinemas Regency Stadium (my least favorite theater) and managed to secure a place in line, right in the middle of the *freaking* road. Why do I always find myself standing in line in the middle of a parking-lot road every time I go this this theater? Why? You would think that someone would take a moment away from popping popcorn to direct customers off the road. At any rate, someone in the theater noticed a long, winding Conga line, forming in the parking-lot and decided to add another ticket seller. With the addition of another ticket seller, the line moved along and I bought tickets and found a nice set of seats. My seat was made all the more comfortable with my new ($ 24 tickets) smaller wallet. Oh, by the way, there was no one to take our tickets, I guess he was the additional ticket seller.
Everything seemed to be going well until a couple with infant sat next to us. Nooooooooooooo!!!
Aside from a baby to our left, and a risk to life and limb obtaining the tickets, the theater (once seated in the theater) provided a pleasant movie-going experience. The baby only cried twice (briefly) and the movie was awesome. It is probably the best of the three movies in The Hobbit series. I really didn't mind the changes to the original story of The Hobbit. I liked the merging of The Hobbit with Lord of the Rings. The pace was very fast and filled with CGI battle scenes. The movie did not have the bloat of the previous two Hobbit movies and it felt like a good mix of action with character development.
In the end, the clan Huddleston gives The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies three thumbs up.
