But last night, Verity made a decision. And when Verity makes a decision, the universe usually has the good sense to step aside. 1. Verity Didn’t Sleep — She Calculated While Barry snored like a man who has fought too many nobles and not enough pillows, Verity sat at the kitchen table with three datapads, a cup of tea she forgot to drink, and a look on her face that could cut through titanium. Her antennae were dim — not stressed, not panicked — just focused. She was running simulations. Not escape plans. Not evacuation routes. Defense models. Barry shuffled in, hair a disaster. “Verity… what are you doing?” She didn’t look up. “Preparing.” 2. 🌑 DALE’S BROADCAST: “THE NIGHT THE BAYOU WOKE UP” Folks… I really thought the Lady Morgan situation was behind us. I figured we’d scraped the cosmic glitter off the porch and gone back to pretending our lives were normal. The bayou had other plans. Last night, Pretty Bayou woke up . 1. The Humming Started at 2:14 AM I was out on the porch with my coffee when the whole swamp began to hum — low, deep, and ancient. Barry stepped outside shirtless, wearing only his plaid pajama bottoms. Verity followed close behind him, wearing a silky black nightgown that clung to her body in the humid air. She stayed pressed against his side, one hand resting on his chest as her antennae glowed softly while she recharged. “Is that… normal?” Barry asked. Verity’s voice was low and warm against his skin. “No… and it is not random.” 2. Cassadaga, Florida isn’t just a town — it’s a spiritualist enclave , a place where mediums, mystics, and wandering souls (both living and otherwise) gather like moths around a neon “Palm Readings $10” sign. Cory Doctorow has dropped a grimoire on our doorstep— The Reverse Centaur’s Guide to Life After AI —and let me tell you, this thing is less “summer reading” and more “warning label on the side of a malfunctioning starship.” Doctorow opens with a tale of a man swallowed whole by a chatbot—Marco Buscaglia, patron saint of “I swear I checked the sources.” Ten nonexistent books, one nonexistent professor of hammock culture, and a very real corporate machine that set him up like a goat tied to a post in front of a hungry algorithm.
