Disney reportedly canceled the Lucasfilm series Willow, but the show’s writer and showrunner, Jonathan Kasdan, said that the series had not been canceled and that Volume II is planned. Kasdan explained that the reports of the show’s cancellation were exaggerated and that he nor the team at Lucasfilm would have categorized the series as being canceled. A decision was made last week to release the main cast for other series opportunities that may arise for them in the coming year. With all the TV and movies in production around the world, it feels unfair to limit an actor’s availability without a clear sense of when you’re going to need them again. It’s further trivialized by the simple reality that the scripts we’ve been working on require just as many actors with whom no such contractual hold exists. However, there are currently no plans to start shooting Volume II, and Kasdan says that production on streaming shows is slowing down and that the Willow series definitely won’t resume film for 12 months, at least. If the show isn’t canceled, and it actually does get a Volume II, the showrunner hopes that what they deliver is will be “brain-melting fun, richer, darker and better."
