Dearest Readers,
April has arrived in all its capricious glory—and with it, a delightful dispatch from the venerable Svengoolie! Much like the mischievous specter that occasionally rearranges my bookshelf, Svengoolie teases us with April Fool’s charm. But beneath the playful veneer lies a fascinating lineup of cinematic oddities and monstrous tales to carry us through the month.
First, let’s address the grand spectacle of “Attack of the 50 Foot Woman.” (April 5th ) A film that resonates with me deeply—perhaps because it reminds me of Aunt Gertie after the ill-fated séance of ‘97. Allison Hayes takes on immense proportions, both in stature and vengeance, which tickles my sense of poetic justice.
The mention of “Deadly Mantis” ( April 12th ) stirs memories of Doug’s ill-advised attempt at rescuing an injured praying mantis. Little did we know that insects, prehistoric or otherwise, take their meals very seriously.
And then, my kindred spirits, we are treated to not one but TWO delectable servings ( It Came From Outer Space and House of Svengoolie: Munchies ) (April 19th ) —a double feature that dances between extraterrestrial intrigue and mischievous munchies. I’d warn the Svengoolie Squad to avoid sharing snacks, but given Nostalgiaferatoo’s unique dietary preferences, perhaps they’re safe after all.
Lastly, the tale of “Willard” ( April 26th ) and his rodent army is one I’ve contemplated adapting into my own life strategy. Perhaps I could rally the dust bunnies under my bed for a similar uprising against those who disrespect the art of storytelling.
In closing, Svengoolie’s schedule reminds me that the art of entertaining is alive and well. So, dear readers, may your month be filled with cinematic delights and laughter that echoes through the halls of mystery.
Yours in whimsical musings,
Dale T. Doll
