Gnosis: The Secrets of Solomon’s Temple Revealed
by Philip Gardiner
Publisher: New Page Books
ISBN-10: 1564149099
ISBN-13: 978-1564149091 My Thoughts:
Have you ever had a book that sort of follows you around? If you have then you know what I mean when I say that Gardiner’s Gnosis has followed me around for several years. Some three or four years ago, I picked up a copy of this book and carried it around in the bookstore before returning it to the shelf (I do this all the time — don’t shop with me if you are easily embarrassed). It seems as though I can’t visit a bookstore or library without noticing this title. Finally, the book has won — I’ve read it.
Gardener takes us on a journey to explain his theories of gnosis with an exploration of historic symbols. He uses a sort of connect the dot method and, as with everything in life, its up to the reader to determine the validity of his interpretations. I can’t say that I agreed with everything he wrote.
I will say that I enjoyed this thought provoking journey. His interpretations of Kundalini symbols are very interesting. Mystics, Alchemists, Gnostics, Templars, and Sufis are among the many topics used to flesh out Gardener’s thesis.
The Appendixes “The Knowledge Dictionary” and “Timeline of Serpent Worship” are brilliant. This book is a must-have for your gnostic home library. While some of the pictures would have worked better in color, I give it 4 1/2 stars!
