Is it really Mad Max without Mel Gibson?

Oh, I understand that each generation has to create or recreate their heroes. I have no problem with Joseph Campbell's The Hero With A Thousand Faces concept. But is Mad Max really Mad Max without at least a cameo from Mel Gibson?

The buzz seems to indicate that the new Mad Max movie, Mad Max: Fury Road, is pretty good.  If it is as good as the movie-makers claim, why has it been delayed? Reports of an early 2015 release have been changed to May 2015. Is it an effort to make more money? Do they believe that Mad Max will compete strongly for movie-goer dollars against films like Batman v. Superman?  I guess time will tell ...
