Another week has rolled by, this week I am fueled by caffeine. Peppy wants to get up early for his morning walk and I need a few hours more of sleep. I think my smart house of the future would have an automatic dog-walking feature. Rainy, gloomy (at times), cold, it is pretty much what you would expect for a Winter in the panhandle of Florida.
With the weather being what it is, you would have expected me to be tinkering around with tech or reading. However, my biggest tech project has been to install a new line to the ice-maker. That being said, I have dabbled with the Kindle several times a day. I ordered Sherlock Holmes at the Varieties
though to be honest, I'm not sure that I will read it. What can I say, it was free. I'm a sucker for free...
I continue to experiment with my Manjaro system (link). I am using the XFCE flavor of Manjaro but I have to admit that I am tempted to try another desktop environment like Mate or maybe Cinnamon. Of course, it begs the question if you wanted Mate or Cinnamon why aren't you using Linux MInt? I guess what I like about Manjaro is that it simply works ...
Now, let's talk about things that didn't work. I downloaded and installed Play on Linux and Wine to give me the option of playing some non-Linux games on this rig. As far as I can tell, both are working fine. I say as far as I can tell because the game that I chose to download "timed out" just minutes before finishing. It wasn't the software, it's my bandwidth. Thanks for nothing AT&T.
In frustration, I decided to download and install PCSX2 which should allow me to play my Playstation 2 games on my Manjaro rig. After tinkering with it for a few hours, I gave up. Oh well, I guess that I will have to stick to Linux friendly games that can be downloaded via a slow internet connection.
I haven't changed very much with my desktop other than a different wallpaper, removed my Conky, and added Docky. I'm not sure that I will stick with either the wallpaper or Docky and my choice of Conky depends on my wallpaper. Given a moment of boredom and I will change the appearance of the desktop every-time.
That's all for me for today, I must return to the plumbing it still leaks.
